Data Contracts

With the rise of data and AI technologies, we increasingly need to exchange domain data between different teams. We need a way to describe and understand domain data and we want to rely on quality and stability.

Data contracts define the schema of provided data, and more importantly, semantics and quality attributes in a YAML format. Data contracts specify terms of use, so consumers can rely on data contracts.

Data contracts are primarily a communication tool to express a common understanding of how data should be structured and interpreted. They make implicit domain knowledge and expectations explicit. Later in development and production, they also serve as the basis for code generation, testing, schema validations, quality checks, monitoring, access control, and computational governance policies.

In this talk, I will introduce the Data Contract Specification (https://datacontract.com/) and the Data Contract CLI (https://cli.datacontract.com/) to validate data contracts.
