Our new plugin-infrastructure allowed us to finalize the work for our Eclipse UML2-Plugin.

This enables you to process model files stored in the Eclipse UML2 format together with iQgen.

As some of the major vendors like NoMagic with MagicDraw and IBM with the Rational Software Modeller/Architect have an export facility to Eclipse UML2-Files you can now use models from those tools as input sources for iQgen as well.

Our Eclipse UML2-Plugin is part of the iQgen Reader Plugin-Pack 2.1. It contains small samples which show how to use each iQgen-Plugin.

Please note that you can't simply "re-use" existing iQgen templates. In this cases please contact us under support@innoq.com.

We are pleased to announce the final version of iQgen 3.0!

This version combines the power of the 2.X releases and introduces the new "Reader Plugin" infrastructure, which opens iQgen for other model sources than just "plain" XMI files. Examples for other model source are (but not limited to):

Ecore-Models (www.eclipse.org/emf)

XML Documents

External Databases / Repositories

Compared to the Beta 7 we heavily improved the backwards-compatibility. If you already have an existing iQgen 2.X installation, you should be able to upgrade without any additional changes.

If you are interested to know more about it or if you want to give us feedback, please contact us under support@innoq.com.

It was amazing to see the power and flexibility of the new Plugin infrastructure. Because of all the new possibilities, we decided to put some more effort in the integration of the Plugins.

If you would like to test it by yourself, just download the Beta 7 (currently only Windows officially supported).

Please note, that there was a package renaming from com.innoq.generator to com.innoq.iqgen; under some circumstances you have to apply this change to existing templates and user-classes.

iQgen 3.0 Beta 1 recently introduced a new infrastructure to support more and different types of models. Previous versions officially only supported UML 1.X compliant models which were stored in XMI files. As the core of iQgen now handles any type of models, other model sources can be easily processed.

With the right extension iQgen can generate from any source of information, whether this is an UML model or not. The following list contains some examples of already implemented extensions based on iQgen 3.0:

Ecore (www.eclipse.org/emf)

Mapping between Ecore and UML 1.X

Instances of Ecore models (with Dynamic EMF)

UML2 (www.eclipse.org/uml2)

Mapping between UML2 and UML 1.X

JAXB (Java XML Data Binding)

WSDL (Web-Service Description Language)

XML-DOM (XML Document Object Model)

Databases (both schema and content)

To give you the opportunity to evaluate these capabilities we publish a free "plugin pack" (iQgen-plugins-1.0.zip) with some plugins. It contains these plugins:

ecore

ecore library sample (the library sample from Ecore)

uml2

xml (for XML-DOM)

For installation instructions please read the included readme.txt. If you have any more questions regarding the "plugin pack" or would like to know more about iQgen and the ways it can be integrated into your environment or development process, please contact us at support@innoq.com.

It contains major changes to the underlying infrastructure and enables you to integrate iQgen more easily in your existing development tool and process chain, e.g. reading model information from other sources than XMI files.

Nevertheless iQgen 3.0 has the same capabilities like the previous versions and is almost 100% backwards compatible. Just try your existing templates with this new version and see.

Somehow related to this bug in Eclipse, the iQgen 2.1 plugin for Eclipse will not work on Mac OS X. The problem is that it contains both the Eclipse UI classes as well as those intended for the stand-alone Swing UI, and Eclipse on OS X fails to initialize AWT (and thus Swing) properly.

We have put up a patched version of iqgen.jar here; simply download it and replace the existing one in your
$ECLIPSE_HOME/plugins/com.innoq.iqgen_2.1.0/
directory. One of the next iQgen releases will contain this patch, we’ll update this entry when this happens.
