Clemens Vasters has provided some interesting background on a project he is currently working on.

I believe that what can easily be seen is that the overall architectural patterns, let's say: the meta-architecture, really doesn't differ that much — whether you are using C, C++ and CORBA, combinded with the Event or Notification service, J2EE/JMS, MSMQ, or any other bunch of technologies.
