Reinventing Unix Commands on the Web
March 3, 2007
One of my favorite business model suggestions for entrepreneurs is, find an old UNIX command that hasn’t yet been implemented on the web, and fix that.
talkandfingerbecame ICQ, LISTSERV became Yahoo! Groups, lsbecame (the original) Yahoo!,findandgrepbecame Google, rnbecame Bloglines, pinebecame Gmail, mountis becoming S3, andbashis becoming Yahoo! Pipes. I didn’t get until tonight that Twitter iswallfor the web. I love that.
I also like this one from the comments:
chown: ebay.com
